SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Marcus Thornton made four 3-pointers and scored 11 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Sacramento Kings past the Portland Trail Blazers 117-100 last night. DeMarcus Cousins had 20 points and seven rebounds for the Kings. Jason Brooks added 16 points, James Johnson had 12, and Jimmer Fredette and Tyreke (ty-REEK’) Evans 11 each. Rookie point guard Damien Lillard scored 20 points for Portland.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks had no time to enjoy their comeback victory over New England. Not with division rival San Francisco up next and only a couple of days to get ready. The Seahawks were already cramming yesterday in preparation for Thursday’s game on the road. Both Seattle and San Francisco have 4-2 records and are part of a three-way tie with Arizona on top of the NFC West. Still, Seattle coach Pete Carroll did compliment his team on its fourth quarter comeback.

UNDATED (AP) – Moments after Cody Vaz’s first-ever drive as starting quarterback for Oregon State, the Internet was humming. “VAZzle-Dazzle,” ”VAZ-tacular” and “VAZ-matazz” were among the nicknames that were bandied about. “Cody Vaz” was trending on Twitter. Vaz, making his first start since high school, threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns in No. 8 Oregon State’s 42-24 victory over BYU on Saturday. He completed 20 of 32 passes.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) – The Eastern Washington football team is top-ranked in the latest FCS poll. After their 27-24 win at Montana State on Saturday, the Eagles moved up five places to seize the No. 1 spot in The Sports Network poll released yesterday. The Eagles won the national title in 2010, and then held the top ranking the first two weeks of 2011.

SEATTLE (AP) – The King County Council and the Seattle City Council have given their final approval to an agreement to build a new professional basketball and hockey arena in the city. The votes came yesterday despite a lawsuit threat from the Longshore union, which says the agreement violates state environmental law and would put good-paying maritime jobs at risk. Hedge fund manager Chris Hansen is leading a group that wants to build a $490 million arena with $200 million in public financing.
