Local Sports – Ducks, Beavers, and Viks

Seven turnovers by the Vikings and a 17-point fourth quarter by the Bulldogs led to a 34-20 North Bend victory over Siuslaw Friday night at Hans Peterson Field.  The loss left the Vikings in second place in the Far West League and elevated the Bulldogs to first place.  That means in order to make it to the OSAA playoffs Siuslaw will host the Ridgeview Ravens Friday night in a “play-in” game.

The Reedsport Braves thumped Myrtle Point on the field Friday night 52- 14.  Mapleton fell to Lowell 58 – 14.

On the volleyball court Saturday the Mapleton Sailors got by Triangle Lake in three games to capture the number three seed from the Mountain West League in the OSAA 1A volleyball playoffs.  They’ll travel to St. Paul Wednesday where they’ll face the Buckaroos.

Reedsport will be in the OSAA 2A playoffs, matchups will be finalized Wednesday.

Kenjon Barner rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, and it was essentially over early in the second quarter as number two Oregon stampeded past the Colorado Buffalos for a 70-14 Pac-12 football victory Saturday in Eugene.  The Ducks remain at number two in the BCS ranking.

Oregon State trailed ten-nothing at the half, led briefly in the second half, but fell behind again as they fell to the Washington Huskies 20-17 in Seattle Saturday night.  The Beavers dipped in the BCS rankings following the loss from number eight to eleven.
