Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Travis Releford showed some newfound aggressiveness in scoring 17 points last night, and No. 12 Kansas roared to a 78-41 win over Washington State in the semifinals of the CBE Classic. Perry Ellis added 12 points and Ben McLemore had 10 for the Jayhawks, who built a double-digit lead in the opening minutes. Brock Motum scored 14 for the Cougars.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Tony Woods scored a career-high 17 points as Oregon remained undefeated with a 67-45 victory over Jacksonville State last night. E.J. Singler added 11 points and Dominic Artis had 10 for the Ducks, who are off to their best start since going 4-0 in 2007-08 – the last year they went to the NCAA tournament. Oregon led Jacksonville State 37-20 at the half.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – A week off for the Seattle Seahawks allowed coach Pete Carroll to take a closer look at some of his team’s struggles. Third down has been the biggest issue for the Seahawks this season on both sides of the ball. A defense that ranks third in the league in yards and points per game given up is allowing opposing offenses to convert on 41 percent of third down opportunities. Offensively, Seattle is converting 33 percent on third down. Both stats are in the bottom third of the league.

SEATTLE (AP) – After getting routed by Arizona last month and giving up 52 points for the second time this season, Washington didn’t look much improved from a defense that was among the worst in the country a year ago. The last four weeks, it’s been the defense that has spurred Washington’s surge. Washington enters Friday’s Apple Cup against Washington State not having allowed more than 17 points in any of its last four games. A year ago, the Huskies gave up nearly 36 points and more than 450 yards per game.
