Things got out of hand early in the third quarter last night and the Elmira Falcons pulled away from the Siuslaw Vikings for an 80-54 non-league win last night. In Florence, the Lady Vikings struggled as well, falling to the Falcons 49 – 15. The teams will be back on the court again this evening against the Newport Cubs… the girls at home, the boys in Newport… airtime for the boys game is at 7:15 on KCST.
Mapleton will be in Blue River this evening for Mountain West basketball against the McKenzie Eagles.
Siuslaw basketball standout Jake Thompson is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week. The Viking forward-post leads the team in scoring with 66 points after the first week of play, an average of just under 17 points per game. Honorable mention goes to wrestling standout Ryan Connor who pinned his way to the 285 pound championship at last weekend’s Springfield Wrestling Invitational.
