Boys basketball…
The Siuslaw Vikings downed Junction City Friday night 57 – 43, then ran out of gas Saturday, falling to Stayton 71 – 49. Coach Jack Butler said the Vikings were tired after playing five games in six days.
The Mapleton Sailors came away from the gym Friday night with a 63-43 Mountain West League win over Alsea at home.
Girls basketball…
After starting the Junction City Tournament off with a win Thursday night, the Viking girls fell to the Tigers Friday night 40 -21. They closed out the three-day tourney with a 59 – 34 loss to Elmira Saturday afternoon.
Mapleton picked up their first Mountain West win of the season Friday night at home, 46-28 over Alsea.
On the Schedule… The Mapleton Sailors are on the court in Lowell for boys and girls action against the Red Devils.
On the college court…
The Oregon men overcame a sluggish offensive performance Saturday afternoon to shuck the Nebraska Cornhuskers 60 -38 in Eugene. Center Tony Woods had a team high 14 points; E.J. Singler scored 13 for the Ducks who missed on their first 11 3-point attempts before Singler made a pair in the final seven minutes of the game.
In Corvallis yesterday afternoon Roberto Nelson matched his career high of 34 points and Oregon State pulled away from Chicago State in the second half for an 87-77 win. Devon Collier added 25 points for the Beavers who are now 7-and-2 on the season.
