SEATTLE (AP) – Russell Wilson tied Peyton Manning’s record for most touchdown passes by a rookie with 26, and his 1-yard TD run with 1:39 left gave Seattle a 20-13 win over the St. Louis Rams yesterday and an 8-0 home mark for the Seahawks. Seattle entered the day with hopes of still winning the NFC West and getting a home playoff game, but those dreams were dashed when San Francisco beat Arizona 27-13 to clinch the division. Seattle will be the No. 5 seed in the NFC and face the NFC East champion – Washington – in the opening round next weekend. Seattle finished as the only unbeaten team at home in the NFL.
UNDATED (AP) – Even a disappointing ending can’t diminish what Oregon State accomplished this season. The No. 15 Beavers were the surprise of the Pac-12, rebounding from a 3-9 disaster last year to a 9-4 finish this season. The six-game turnaround is the best in school history. Only Ohio State and Middle Tennessee could also boast the same improvement this year. Oregon State’s season ended Saturday with a 31-27 loss to Texas in the Alamo Bowl.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Jeff Elorriaga made a school-record 3-pointers and scored 30 points to lead Boise State to a 105-49 win over Corban University yesterday. Elorriaga was 10 of 16 from 3-point range, breaking the previous record of nine set by Abe Jackson on Dec. 10, 2000. He had eight 3-pointers at halftime. Boise State scored the game’s first 14 points and never trailed against Corban, an NAIA Division II program based in Salem, Ore.
