Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…
On the diamond… the Siuslaw Viking split with South Umpqua on the baseball field at home Friday afternoon, taking the opener 9-2 then falling in the nightcap 5-2. Elsewhere in the league Brookings-Harbor swept Douglas in two, North Bend had the broom out for Sutherlin.
On the softball diamond South Umpqua claimed game one with a ten-run shutout. Ashlee Cole had two home runs and six RBI to lead the Lady Vikings to a 12-5 win in game two. North Bend handed Sutherlin a pair of losses and Brooking split with Douglas.
Siuslaw Track and Field competed at Jim Robinson’s Roseburg Twilight Saturday.
Hayden Schaffner won the boys’ 800 with a time of 1:57.43. Mitchell Butler was second in the 3,000 with a personal best time of 8:48.72. That time moves him up to the number five on the all-time Siuslaw list.
Katy Potter set a new Siuslaw record with a 2nd place finish in the girls’ 3,000 at 10:13.86. In addition to her fastest ever time at that distance, it’s also number 9 in state history and she leads the 4A.
Katelyn Wells had a big PR in the girls’ 800 finishing in sixth with a time of 2:25.4… improving on her previous best by eight seconds and moving her up to number ten all time at Siuslaw.
College Baseball
Number six ranked Oregon State swept Utah in three Pac-12 baseball games in Corvallis, winning Friday one-nothing; Saturday 8-3 and then capping it with a 4-1 win yesterday. The Beavers will take on the Pilots in Portland for non-league ball Wednesday.
The 16th ranked Ducks had their own broom with them in Berkeley over the weekend, taking three games from the Cal Bears 3-2, 10-4 and 5-4. The Ducks will play the Portland Pilots tomorrow.
