Far West Baseball…
The Siuslaw Vikings scored six runs on six hits… and that was only the top of the first inning… then they cruised to an 8-nothing shutout win over the South Umpqua Lancers in Myrtle Creek. Jake Thompson picked up the win on the mound, striking out 13 and giving up only two hits. The defense was flawless as the Vikings committed no errors on the day… but the Lancers committed seven gaffes. The senior trio of Thompson, Josh Iabichello and Ryan Smith combined for 7-of-12 hitting at the plate and five RBI. In other Far West Play, Douglas picked up their second win of league play, downing Brookings-Harbor 11-9. North Bend shut out Sutherlin ten-nothing.

On the softball diamond…
South Umpqua used a pair of late game rallies to get past the Vikings 10-5 in Florence. Siuslaw went up by three runs in the first inning, and held on to a tie by the end of the fifth, but three runs each in the 6th and 7th spelled doom. Lona Dengler was one-for-one at the plate… but that one hit was a 3RBI home run in the first inning to start things off for the Viks. Ashlee Cole and Alex Opitz each went two-for-three at the plate.
