MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Scott Diamond pitched six shutout innings and Josh Willingham hit one of Minnesota’s four home runs as the Twins trounced the Seattle Mariners 10-0 yesterday. Chris Herrmann hit his first major league homer and Ryan Doumit and Brian Dozier also connected for the Twins. Willingham drove in three runs.
SEATTLE (AP) – Tanisha Wright scored 20 points to lead the Seattle Storm past the Phoenix Mercury 75-72 last night. Camille Little scored 13 points and Shekinna Stricklen added 11 for the Storm. Candice Dupree had 18 points and Brittney Griner added 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots to lead the Mercury.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Ryon Healy had two doubles and a home run to, helping the Ducks stave off elimination for the second time yesterday with an 11-0 victory against Rice in the NCAA Eugene regional. Healy went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs for the Ducks, who got eight extra-base hits off a combined five Rice pitchers. Eighth-seeded Oregon will face the Owls again tonight in the championship game.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State defeated Texas A&M 6-1 yesterday to win the NCAA Corvallis regional. Oregon State pitcher Ben Wetzler threw a complete game four-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Danny Hayes drove in three runs on two hits for Oregon State.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Top-seeded Oklahoma beat Washington 6-2 last night to reach the finals of the Women’s College World Series. Lauren Chamberlain and Keilani Ricketts homered and speedster Brianna Turang scored twice. The Sooners and Tennessee will open the best-of-3 finals series tonight.
