A two run home run off the bat of 1st baseman George Roberts in the top of the eighth inning last night gave the surging Hillsboro Hops just enough to get past the Eugene Emeralds at PK Park in Eugene. The Ems did manage one run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 2-1.
The Hops, who had the worst record in the Northwest League in the first half of the season, are now in a tie for first place with Salem-Keizer in the 2nd half. Both teams are at 16-and-11 while the Ems , at 12-and-15, are four games back with 11 games remaining in the season.
Hillsboro and Eugene meet tonight at PK Park.
