Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – DeAndre Jordan had 16 points and eight rebounds and the Los Angeles Clippers opened the preseason last night with an 89-81 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Chris Paul added 15 points and eight rebounds. Nicolas Batum led Portland with 12 points. Blazers guard Damian Lillard, last season’s NBA rookie of the year, added 11 points and six assists, but Portland was hampered by the absence of All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Coach Pete Carroll says wide receiver Percy Harvin has rejoined the Seattle Seahawks and is prepared to take the next step in his recovery from hip surgery. Harvin tweeted yesterday that he was back with the team. Carroll says Harvin is running and went through a workout with trainers Monday.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – The Jacksonville Jaguars have been awarded receiver Stephen Williams off waivers from Seattle. The 6-foot-5 Williams, who signed as an undrafted rookie with Arizona in 2010, played in the first four games with Seattle in 2013 but did not catch a pass.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Titans need to quickly work the kinks out of their run game if they want to help quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick have success filling in for the injured Jake Locker in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. The Titans spent more than $100 million this offseason, with a big chunk of that going toward the offensive line and backfield help for Chris Johnson so that running the ball was an option for coach Mike Munchak.
SEATTLE (AP) – Steve Sarkisian knows No. 16 Washington can’t dwell on what happened at Stanford last weekend with No. 2 Oregon visiting Seattle on Saturday. Sarkisian yesterday said he still doesn’t agree with a call that overturned a fourth-down reception by Kevin Smith on Washington’s final possession, contributing to the Huskies’ 31-28 loss to the Cardinal. Sarkisian says the Pac-12 affirmed the replay officials’ decision.
