SEATTLE (AP) – Steven Hauschka kicked a 27-yard field goal with eight minutes and 11 seconds left in overtime, and the Seattle Seahawks staged the biggest rally in franchise history yesterday, overcoming a 21-point deficit to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-24. Trailing 21-0, Seattle improved to 8-1 and continued the best start in franchise history. Russell Wilson threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin with 1:51 left in regulation to pull the Seahawks even. Wilson then led Seattle on a nine-play, 51-yard drive in overtime capped by Hauschka’s game-winner.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Fred Couples ended a 16-event winless streak dating to the Senior British Open last year by winning the Champions Tour’s season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship yesterday. Kenny Perry topped the yearlong points race to earn a $1 million annuity. Couples closed with a 2-under 69 for a six-stroke victory over Bernhard Langer, Peter Senior and Mark O’Meara.
SEATTLE (AP) – Free safety Dashon Goldson sat out his second straight game for Tampa Bay with a knee injury. Goldson had hoped to return yesterday against the Seattle Seahawks in the city where he was a college star at Washington, but his knee wasn’t healthy enough. Seattle did not have any players inactive who were not already ruled out.
UNDATED (AP) -Florida State is back in second place in the BCS standings, edging past Oregon behind first-place Alabama. Third-place Oregon plays Stanford Thursday night and a win is likely to push the Ducks back into second. The Seminoles and Ducks have exchanged positions in the BCS standings the last two weeks.
