ATLANTA (AP) – LaMarcus Aldridge had 25 points and 16 rebounds in his return from a back injury, and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Atlanta Hawks 100-85 last night to end a three-game losing streak. Damian Lillard added 21 points for the Trail Blazers, who had lost seven of 10 and were in danger of falling out of the fifth spot in the Western Conference playoff standings.

SEATTLE (AP) – Clint Dempsey says he was disappointed by the two-game suspension issued by Major League Soccer just before a major international appearance for the U.S. national team against Mexico. Dempsey spoke for the first time about his suspension after the Seattle Sounders practice yesterday. Dempsey was suspended for violent conduct toward Toronto FC defender Mark Bloom in a March 15 match.

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) – The Seattle Mariners have signed right-handed starter Chris Young to a major league deal for the 2014 season in the hopes of solidifying the back end of the rotation. Seattle signed Young yesterday and designated for assignment left-handed reliever Bobby LaFromboise to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Young had been in spring training with Washington, making two starts and giving up four earned runs in 10 1-3 innings pitched.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have signed free agent cornerback Phillip Adams adding depth to a secondary that has lost three players off last season’s Super Bowl championship team. Seattle announced the signing of Adams last night.
