Vikings Win; Head to Football Post Season

Joseph Dotson had a 52-yard touchdown run; connected with Scott Gordon on a 52-yard touchdown pass; and caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Preston Mitchell and the Siuslaw Vikings cruised to a 40-7 Far West League football win over the Brookings-Harbor Bruins Friday night. With a number 16 ranking in the 4A, the Vikings earned a game in the next level of the post-season… they’ll take on the Marshfield Pirates Friday night in Coos Bay.

North Bend clinched the Far West Championship with a 44-14 win over the Pirates Friday night in Coos Bay; South Umpqua blitzed Douglas 52-nothing.

Sailors fall in finale

In the Mountain West League, Triangle Lake handed the Mapleton Sailors a 72-28 loss in Mapleton. The Sailors wrapped up the regular season three-and-four overall… two-and-four in league play.

 Viking Volleyball Opens Post Season at Home

On the Volleyball court… the Siuslaw Vikings will host the Tillamook Cheesemakers in Florence tonight at six in the “play-in” round of the OSAA 4A playoffs.

Also on the volleyball court… the Mapleton Sailor season came to an end at the Mountain West playoffs in Junction City. The Sailor’s fell to McKenzie in three games.

Pac-12 Football

On the college gridiron Friday night… Marcus Mariota matched his season high with five touchdown passes and broke the Oregon record for career passing yards in the number six Ducks’ 59-41 victory over Cal. Mariota completed 18-of-30 passes for 326 yards; but also threw his first interception of the season… ending his streak of 253 passes without a pick.

Kevin Hogan threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and Stanford’s sporadic offense busted out of its slump for a 38-14 rout of Oregon State Saturday afternoon.
