Vikings down the Pirates for Post Season Continuation
Preston Mitchell celebrated his 17th Birthday Friday with two catches for 28 yards, three punt returns for 49 yards and completed four-of-seven passes for 38 yards and the Siuslaw Vikings dominated the Marshfield Pirates 14-nothing to advance to the next round of the OSAA football playoffs.
Joseph Dotson completed ten-of-12 passes for 117 yards, plus scored the final touchdown on his 14th carry of the night. Christian Jakobsen, returning from four weeks off with an injury, carried the ball 21 times for 100 yards and the game’s first touchdown in the first quarter.
Siuslaw will now face undefeated Skyline League Champion Mazama Friday night or Saturday afternoon in Klamath Falls.
One other Far West Team was on the field Saturday, the South Umpqua Lancers defeated Ontario 41-nothing. The bracket for the OSAA 4A finals are all set for this coming week. The Lancers will travel to Philomath Friday night; the North Bend Bulldogs, the FWL champions, will host La Grande.
Siuslaw Cross Country brings home hardware from state meet
Siuslaw’s Celie Mans and Seth Campbell each brought home the individual fourth place trophies in the 4A Cross Country Finals Saturday morning at LCC in Eugene. The Viking Girls brought home the Third Place team trophy behind Phoenix and Molalla. North Bend was Fourth. The Viking Boys brought home the sixth place trophy. As expected, Valley Catholic captured the championship, followed by Phoenix, Marshfield in third, then Philomath, La Grande, and Siuslaw.

Pac-12 – Ducks continue their ascendancy; the Beavers slide
Marcus Mariota says the Oregon Ducks refuse to let the loss to Arizona last month define their season. With a 45-16 victory over Stanford on Saturday night, the Ducks further distanced themselves from that loss but remained at No. 5 in the AP Top 25 yesterday. The College Football Playoff committee will decide if Oregon deserves to be among the top four tomorrow.
Oregon State fell for the third straight game late Saturday. Giving up a fourth quarter lead to fall 45-31 to California. The Beavers are four-and-four overall… one-and-four in conference play.
