Viking Grapplers Perform Well at Home Tournament
Elmira claimed the tournament title with 267 points, Philomath was 2nd; Springfield 3rd and Siuslaw claimed fourth out of 17 teams at Saturday’s Nick Lutz Wrestling Invitational in Florence. Jose DelaMora won the 120-pound title and was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler in the lighter classes. Ricky Huff won at 106 pounds and Isaiah Burkhalter won at 138. Two other Vikings placed; Dylan Jennings was third at 285 and Kainan Lane was fourth at 220. Siuslaw will be in Sutherlin for the Bulldog Invitational Saturday.

First the boys:
The Mapleton Sailors had two players with double-doubles Friday night in a 50-25 win over Mohawk. Tucker Ford had 19 points and 14-rebounds; Chris Free had 15 points, 12-rebounds and three steals.

In Coos Bay, Siuslaw built a lead in the first quarter but saw it evaporate quickly in the 2nd quarter on the way to a 73-48 loss to Marshfield Friday night. Joe Dotson led the Vikings with 17 points. Elsewhere in the Far West League, top-ranked North Bend blew by Brookings Harbor 51-32; South Umpqua downed Douglas 66-43.

A strong fourth quarter surge propelled the Marshfield Pirates past Siuslaw 54-38. Destinie Tatum led the Vikings with ten points. Brookings-Harbor beat North Bend 58-26; Douglas beat South Umpqua 57-31.

Langston Morris-Walker had a career high 22 points and 11 rebounds Saturday afternoon in Pullman and Oregon State powered their way to a 62-47 victory over Washington State. Oregon State’s defense held the Cougars to just 16 points on 25-percent shooting in the first half… and less than 30-percent on the night.
In Seattle last night, Oregon fell to Washington 85-77. The Huskies trailed by ten at the half but tied it midway through the second period before taking the lead for good with 8 ½ minutes left.
