UNDATED (AP) — Kentucky is the unanimous No. 1 in The Associated Press’ Top 25 for the second straight week. The Cavaliers were back up to No. 2, moving past Gonzaga after beating No. 12 North Carolina and No. 9 Louisville last week. Villanova moved up to No. 6 after No. 7 Arizona lost to rival Arizona State for the only other change in the top 10.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Sounders players’ union representative Brad Evans is pessimistic about the current state of negotiations between Major League Soccer and its players on a new collective bargaining agreement. Evans acknowledged that the talks over the new CBA would likely come down to the last minute and push up against the start of the MLS regular season on March 6.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso could miss the first two games of the MLS regular season after undergoing groin surgery. Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said that Alonso’s recovery time is not completely known. Schmid said it could be two weeks before he starts training again, or it could be as long as six to eight weeks before the talented defensive midfielder can get back on the field.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Coach Mark Helfrich has agreed to a five-year contract extension that would keep him at Oregon through the 2019 season. Helfrich last month wrapped up his second season with the Ducks, who finished 13-2 and went to the first College Football Playoff, eventually falling to Ohio State in the national championship game.
