Comback bid falls short for Siuslaw softball

A three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh fell short and the Elmira Falcons held off the Siuslaw Vikings in a 7-6 nonleague softball game in Florence yesterday. Nikki Launius (LONN-ee-uss) was two-for-four at the plate with a triple and two RBI. Andy Ruede (REE-dee) was one-for-two, but she drew two walks, stole three bases and scored three times. The Lady Vikings are in Pleasant Hill today for a final non-league matchup. Game time has been moved up an hour to 3:30.

On the baseball diamond…

Siuslaw committed four errors, but the were all costly as the Vikings fell 7-1 to the Elmira Falcons. Siuslaw will be at home again this afternoon for a final non-league contest, this one against Pleasant Hill at 4:30…. The game will air on Coast Radio Sports with the pregame starting at 4:15.

Civil War baseball in Eugene

On the college diamond… it’s baseball civil war in Eugene this weekend as Oregon State takes on Oregon at PK Park. Tonight’s game starts at 7:30 as does tomorrow’s. Sunday’s game is at two. The pregame shows on KCFM begin a half-hour before gametime.

On the prep track…

Siuslaw will be at the Jim Robinson Bigfoot Pepsi Twilight Invitational in Roseburg tomorrow. Mapleton is at the Aaron and Marie Jones Invitational at McKenzie High School this afternoon.
