Vikings at Hayward Field for Oregon Relays
Several Siuslaw Viking athletes competed in Saturday’s Oregon Relays at historic Hayward Field in Eugene. Joseph Dotson won the prep javelin throw with a personal best of 160-feet, 10 ¼ inches. Hannaleah Jacobsen was second in the girls’ javelin with a throw of 107-feet, 10-inches, also a personal best. Josh Payne was second in the 100 meter mixed wheelchair, he was third in the 200 meter wheelchair.
Pirates beat Vikings on two diamonds
A late game rally fell short for the Siuslaw Vikings in Coos Bay Friday afternoon before the Marshfield Pirates came out on top 12-11 for a Far West League baseball victory. The Pirates took the nightcap in the double-header, 11-1. The Brookings-Harbor Bruins will be in Florence tomorrow.
On the softball diamond… the Lady Pirates put up a total of 40-hits to sweep the Vikings in a Far West double header 14-2 and 18-12. Claire Waggoner was three-for-three at the plate with three runs scored in game two; Taylor Dotson was one-for-five, but that one hit was a home run… she had four RBI. The Lady Vikings will be in Brookings tomorrow.
Pac-12 baseball
Oregon State had bookend-wins to claim victory in a three-game series against Arizona in Corvallis. The Beavers came out on top 3-1 Friday before the Wildcats evened the series Saturday 3-1. Oregon State held off a late game rally for a 5-3 win yesterday afternoon.
In Los Angeles the USC Trojans had the bookend wins over the Oregon Ducks, coming out on top 13-5 Friday and 7-3 Sunday. The Ducks won Saturday’s contest 15-4.
