Rhody Run Results
The 37th annual Rhody Run five and ten K races were held Saturday morning under damp skies. Florence’s Jacob Berkner won the men’s 5K in 16:28. Raelyn Robinson won the women’s 5K in 22:29.
Raina Rausch of Elkton won the women’s ten-K in 41:58. The men’s ten-K was won by Orestes Gutierrez . In his first time on the course, he won it in 34:25.
Prep Track and Field
Six individual district championships for the Siuslaw girls and a strong performance across the board led the Vikings to a Far West District Track and Field Championship Saturday in Brookings.
Celie Mans was a double winner in the 3-thousand and 15-hundred. Carissa Oliver was also a double winner… in the shot put and discus. Mikaela Siegel was first in the 100 meter hurdles; Destinie Tatum won the 400.
For the boys, North Bend ran away with the team title followed by Marshfield in 2nd, Siuslaw in third. Joe Dotson won the 400; Seth Campbell the 800; and the 4-by-400 relay team of Tyler Williams, Billy Jones. Dotson and Campbell came out on top.
In Finn Rock the Mapleton Boys were edge by Triangle Lake, 129-to-124 at the Mountain West District Track and Field finals. Tyler Packebush won the 110 hurdles; Jacob Pruett the shot put and the javelin; Hunter Simington won the pole vault.
The Mapleton girls tied for third with Alsea at 56 points each. T-Lake won the title with 159, followed by McKenzie with 90. Hannah Rodet was the sole individual champion. She won the pole vault.
On the prep diamond…
North Bend swept Siuslaw in baseball Friday, 9-1 and 13-5, ending the Vikings’ season with a 5-10 Far West record. The Bulldogs were 14-and-1, claiming the league crown.

The Lady Vikings split with North Bend on the softball diamond, winning game one 11-6 Friday before falling 11-5 in the night cap. Siuslaw ended the year one-and-14 in league play. Marshfield won the championship going 15-and-oh in league play.

On the college diamond…
Oregon State helped their post season chances with a three-game sweep of Stanford in Palo Alto over the weekend. The Beavers held on for a 5-2-Friday-win, then again 7-5 Saturday before walking away with a 12-3 victory on Sunday. The Oregon Ducks had their brooms out in Salt Lake City, sweeping Utah in all three games, 8-3, 8-5 and 5-1.
