Two champions and a runner-up
The Siuslaw Vikings came away from the State 4A Track and Field finals over the weekend with two individual championships and one runner up.
Joseph Dotson broke his own school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.24 seconds for the win. Earlier that day he ran 50.86 seconds to finish third in the 400 meters.
Mikaela Siegel also won a state championship Saturday. She claimed the crown in the 100-meter hurdles, beating her previous school record with a time of 15.5 seconds. Siegel also finished seventh in the long jump.
Seth Campbell was second in the 800 meters with a time of 1.58.35.
But wait, there’s more!
The girls’ 4-by-400 relay team was seeded last going into the finals, but came away with a fourth place medal with a time of 4:11.16… that team consisted of Siegel, Kennedy Pendergrass, Magdalena Akeson and Destine Tatum.
Other finishers for the Vikings… Celie Mans was fifth in the 3-thousand and sixth in the 15-hundred; Carissa Oliver was fourth in the discus. Billy Jones was seventh in the long jump; Trent Reavis was tenth in the shot and the girls 4-by-100 relay team of Abby Watkins, Elyssa Rose, Hannahleah Jakobsen and Stevie Miller were 11th.
Both the boys and girls teams finished in 9th place.
Sailors finish strong at 1A meet
In the 1A meet, Jacob Pruett competed in three events for the Mapleton Sailors… He was seventh in the shot put, eighth in the javelin and tenth in the discus. Chris Free was sixth in the triple jump; Hunter Simington seventh in the pole vault; and Tyler Packebush was 12th in the 110 hurdles. Hannah Rodet competed in the girls’ pole vault but did not place.
Beavers and Ducks win final regular season series
On the college baseball diamond… Oregon State took two out of three games from the Cal Bears to finish in second place in the Pac-12. The Beavers won 4-nothing Friday and nine-nothing Saturday. Cal came out on top 7-3 yesterday.
The Oregon Ducks dropped the first game of a three-game series against UCLA 4-3 Friday; but came back with a pair of 11-inning wins, 5-4 Saturday and 4-3 Sunday to claim their final Pac-12 series of the year.
The Bruins finished the regular season with the Pac-12 championship. Oregon was sixth.
Oregon State will make its seventh straight postseason appearance as the number two seed in the Dallas, Texas Regional. The Beavers will open against number three seed Texas Friday. Dallas Baptist is the number one seed, they’ll play VCU.
Oregon is the number three seed at the Springfield, Missouri regional. They’ll face Iowa Friday; Missouri State is the host, they’ll play Canisius.
Oregon Softball advances to College World Series
Number two seed Oregon will take on number seven seed UCLA in the College Softball World Series that gets underway Thursday in Oklahoma City. The Lady Ducks swept NC State in two games of a super regional Friday and Saturday in Eugene to earn the trip to the finals.
