Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

  1. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Kyle Seager hit a grand slam in the eighth inning and a game-winning home run in the 10th last night to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 7-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The game-winner, Seager’s 10th home run of the season, came off Brad Boxberger (2-2) after the Rays had rallied for three runs to tie the game in the ninth.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Washington State has fired baseball coach Donnie Marbut after 11 seasons. The athletic director says a change is needed to return Cougar baseball to a position of prominence. Marbut led the Cougars to two postseason appearances, in 2009 and 2010.

QUEBEC CITY (AP) – Cole Cassels and Tobias Lindberg scored in the second period and the Oshawa Generals beat the Kelowna Rockets 2-1 last night in the Memorial Cup. The Ontario Hockey League champion Generals (3-0) finished first in round-robin play to advance to the final Sunday. Gage Quinney scored for Western Hockey League champion Kelowna (1-2).

UNDATED (AP) – Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Matt Hegarty is transferring to Oregon, where he will be eligible to play immediately as a graduate student. Hegarty played in 34 games for the Fighting Irish, including 11 starts last season moving between guard and center. The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder could help fill the spot on Oregon’s line left open by the departure of center Hroniss Grasu, who was drafted by the Chicago Bears.
