BOSTON (AP) – Mike Zunino and Kyle Seager each had an RBI single in the 12th inning, and the Seattle Mariners blew a big lead before edging the Boston Red Sox 10-8 yesterday. Franklin Gutierrez homered twice and drove in four runs as Seattle rebounded from an ugly start to the series. The Mariners gave up 15 or more runs in consecutive games for the first time in team history.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Brooke Henderson won the Cambia Portland Classic by eight strokes yesterday to become the third-youngest champion in LPGA Tour history. The Canadian closed with a 3-under 69 at Columbia Edgewater to finish at 21-under 267, the lowest total since the event went from 54 holes to 72 in 2013. Henderson is 17 years, 11 months, 6 days.
SEATTLE (AP) – Jewell Loyd had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Ramu Tokashiki added 13 points and a career-high nine rebounds to help the Seattle Storm beat the San Antonio Stars 72-63 yesterday. Sue Bird had13 points and five assists for Seattle (7-19). Bird moved past Tangela Smith into 11th on the WNBA career scoring list with 5,049 points.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Hannah O’Sullivan won the U.S. Women’s Amateur yesterday, beating Sierra Brooks 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final at Portland Golf Club. The 17-year-old O’Sullivan, from Chandler, Arizona, took the lead with a birdie on the par-4 30th, added birdie wins on the par-4 32nd and par-5 33rd and ended the match with a two-putt par for a halve on the par-4 34th.
