Emeralds extend division lead
The Eugene Emeralds edged the Spokane Indians 2-1 for the Ems fourth straight win last night at PK Park. That, coupled with a 5-3 Hillsboro loss to Tri-City, gives Eugene a two-game edge in the Northwest League’s South Division.
Tyler Alamo had an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to provide the winning margin.
The Hillsboro Hops will be in Eugene tonight and through Sunday for a three game series against the Emeralds that could ultimately decide the race in the second half of the season.

Prep Volleyball begins
Siuslaw Viking Volleyball hit the net for the first time yesterday in Coos Bay for the Marshfield Jamboree. The Lady Vikings went one and three with their only win over Bandon. They lost single games to North Bend and Marshfield; as well as a 26-24 loss to Coquille. Coach Angie Herring said everyone played… and she tried “lots of people in new positions”. Siuslaw begins their season in earnest at home Tuesday evening against Philomath.
Mapleton Volleyball is at the McKenzie High School Jamboree today. The Sailors will be back at McKenzie Tuesday for their first regular match.
2015 Viking football debut
Viking football will present the 2015 team this evening at Hans Petersen Field during the annual Blue-Gold scrimmage. Gates open just prior to the team taking the field at 6:30. The talk will be followed by a 40-minute scrimmage.
Siuslaw opens the season on the road one week from tonight against the Newport Cubs.
