OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – The Seattle Mariners earned their fifth straight victory, completing a three-game sweep with a 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics yesterday. Kye Seager and Ketel Marte each drove in a run, and Brad Miller collected two hits for the Mariners. The Mariners swept a series in Oakland for the first time in six years.
IRVING, Texas (AP) – The Dallas Cowboys have acquired running back Christine Michael in a trade from Seattle. Michael was sent to the Cowboys yesterday for a conditional 2016 draft pick. Defensive end Lavar Edwards was waived by Dallas to make room on the 53-man roster. Michael was a second-round pick out of Texas A&M in the 2013 draft.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The lawyer for a former Willamette University football player accused of killing a 66-year-old Salem man in November says his client acted in self-defense. The Statesman Journal reports that lawyer Walter Todd submitted a document to the court that claims Beau Smith was defending himself when he struck Michael Hampshire repeatedly in the face.
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) – Allie Quigley scored 17 points, Elena Delle Donne reached 1,500 career points, and the Chicago Sky beat the Seattle Storm 93-65 last night. The Sky (20-12) moved a step closer to securing home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs and eliminated the Storm (9-22) from playoff contention. Jamierra Faulkner added 14 points and Delle Donne scored 13.
