KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Royals clinched the AL Central for their first division title in 30 years, beating the Seattle Mariners 10-4 last night. Johnny Cueto picked up his first victory in nearly six weeks, and the win, coupled with the Minnesota Twins’ 6-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians, ensured a title. The Royals have dominated the division, leading by as many as 14 games. It’s the Royals first division title since 1985.

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) – The Seattle Storm won the WNBA draft lottery for the second consecutive year last night and with it the right to pick UConn star Breanna Stewart. The 6-foot-4 forward, who can play all five spots on the floor, has led the Huskies to three consecutive national titles and has been the national player of the year for two consecutive seasons. She is the consensus choice to be the top selection in the April draft.

UNDATED (AP) – Seattle Storm guard Jewell Loyd has won the WNBA rookie of the year award. Loyd was the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft in April after forgoing her senior year at Notre Dame. She averaged 10.7 points and 3.5 rebounds for the Storm and is the 10th No. 1 pick to win the award.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) – Jimmy Clausen is taking all the snaps at practice so far this week as Chicago prepares for Sunday’s game at Seattle. He is doing all the first-team work while Jay Cutler nurses a strained hamstring.
