PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Utility infielder Luis Sardinas had a grand slam in the Seattle Mariners’ 13-12 loss to the Oakland Athletics last night. Jake Smolinski hit a three-run home run and drove in four runs and Chris Coghlan had three hits and two RBIs for the A’s. Billy Butler doubled twice and drove in two. The teams combined for 16 runs in the first 2½ innings. Chris Iannetta had three hits and drove in four runs for the Mariners.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Damian Lillard had 27 points and six assists, Ed Davis scored all of his 16 points in the first half and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Dallas Mavericks 109-103 last night. Maurice Harkless, starting for just the fourth time all season, and C.J. McCollum each added 14 points for the Blazers, who won for the first time against the team chasing them in the Western Conference standings.
SEATTLE (AP) — Washington freshmen Marquese Chriss and Dejounte Murray have both declared for the NBA draft and will hire agents, ending their college careers after one season. The school announced the intentions of both Chriss and Murray last night. Both players are projected to be first-round picks after up-and-down first seasons of college basketball where each flashed NBA potential.
CHICAGO (AP) — Seattle goalkeeper Tyler Miller has replaced injured Zack Steffen on the U.S. under-23 roster for the Olympic qualifying playoff against Colombia. The U.S. Soccer Federation said Steffen, who started the first two games in October’s qualifying tournament, was hurt while playing for Freiburg in Germany. The Americans play at Barranquilla tomorrow in the first leg of the total-goals series.
