featureOklahoma overpowers Oregon

Buddy Hield (hylde)hit eight three-pointers while scoring 37 points and number two seed Oklahoma overpowered top seed Oregon 80-68 Saturday to claim the west regional title of the Men’s NCAA tournament.  The Ducks ended the season with a school record 31 wins and conference championships in both the regular season and the Pac-12 tournament.

Oregon State downs DePaul

Meanwhile… the Oregon State women continue their journey through the NCAA tournament.  Jamie Weisner had a career high 38 points and seven 3-pointers and the Beavers beat DePaul 83-71 Saturday in Dallas.  That sets up a regional final tonight against Baylor.  A win sends them to the Final Four in Indianapolis.

College Baseball:

The Cal Bears swept Oregon State in all three games over the weekend, winning 6-2, 5-nothing and 5-3.  The Beavers will host San Diego State for two games tonight and tomorrow.  Oregon lost the series to Washington over the weekend… losing 9-6 in ten innings Thursday before taking the game on Friday 2-nothing.  The Huskies won the rubber match Saturday 7-4.   Oregon will be at Notre Dame for a non-league game Thursday.

Turning to Preps:

Siuslaw lost a pair of non-league softball games Friday afternoon in Reedsport.  The first was 11-2 at the hands of the Harrisburg Eagles who put up 11 hits and capitalized on six Viking errors.  In the nightcap it was much closer with a seventh inning Siuslaw rally falling short as the Reedsport Braves came out on top 5-4.  Taylor Dotson was three-for-four at the plate with a home run and three RBI on the day.  Anna Stonelake was 2-for-2 with a pair of sacrifices.

Bend Heptathlon

Siuslaw’s Mikaela Siegel finished fourth overall at the Bend Heptathlon Friday.  The Viking senior won two events outright, the 800 meter and the 100 hurdles; and finished second in the long jump.  She scored 3,229 points for the third place finish.
