PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Seattle ace Felix Hernandez pitched three innings in the Mariners’ 7-5 loss to the San Diego Padres yesterday in his final start before opening day. Hernandez allowed four runs — all in the first inning — and four hits. He struck out one and walked one. Tyson Ross also pitched three innings and was charged with one run and two hits. He also drove in a run with a fourth-inning single.
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — The Seattle Mariners have rounded out their bullpen just before the start of the season by acquiring right-hander Nick Vincent from the San Diego Padres for a player to be named. Vincent is expected to pitch in a minor-league game for Seattle today and with the Mariners either tomorrow or Saturday. Seattle now has a full 40-man roster.
SEATTLE (AP) — Bellarmine Prep guard Malachi Flynn and Lynnwood star Mikayla Pivec have been voted the 2016 Associated Press Washington state basketball players of the year for all classifications. Results of the voting conducted by sports writers and editors from around the state were announced yesterday. Both Flynn (Class 4A) and Pivec (Class 3A) were also voted the players of the year in their respective classifications.
UNDATED (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers host the Boston Celtics tonight at the Moda Center. The Trail Blazers are coming off a 105-93 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
