Siuslaw’s Carissa Oliver picked up a personal record throw of 124’ 6” in the discus to win that event at the Jim Robinson Bigfoot Pepsi Twilight Invitational Saturday in Roseburg. Trent Reavis won the shot put with a toss of 48’11”.
In Blue River at the Aaron and Marie Jones Invitational, Hunter Simington cleared 10’6” to win the pole vault for the Mapleton Sailors, Tanner Wilson won the javelin with 135’7”; and Josi Hays won the shot put with a personal best throw of 31’ 6”.
Prep baseball and softball…
The Siuslaw Vikings and the Marshfield Pirates split a double header on the opening day of the Far West League Baseball Season. The Vikings came out on top 8-1 in the opener with Michael Larson getting the win with 5 strikeouts. Kenneth Thrall also struck out five in relief. Game two was called because of darkness with the Pirates coming out on top 12-5.
In other Far West League matchups, Douglas and Brookings-Harbor split; as did North Bend and South Umpqua. The Vikings travel to Brookings tomorrow where they’ll face the Bruins.
The Pirates swept Siuslaw in a pair of Far West softball games in Coos Bay, coming out on top 11-1 in game one… then a ten run 4th inning propelled the Pirates over the top for a 17-1 victory in the nightcap.
In other Far West League games, Douglas swept Brookings-Harbor; North Bend and South Umpqua split. Siuslaw will host Brookings-Harbor for one game tomorrow.
On the college diamond…
Oregon State swept all three non league weekend games over Central Arkansas, 6-2; 6-2; and 7-1. Oregon won the series against number 11 Cal after losing the opener Friday 12-2. The Ducks bounced back for a 4-3 Saturday win and closing things out with an 11-5 victory yesterday.
