Siuslaw athletes achieve several high marks
The Marshfield Pirates swept both halves of a Far West League track and field meet on their own oval yesterday, scoring 267 points for the boys, 205 ½ for the girls. North Bend was second on both sides and the Siuslaw Vikings third.
Individual winners for the boys: Trent Reavis P-R’d in the discus with a throw of 137’ 11”. Murray Bingham won the 800 in 2:06.
For the girls, Annmarie Precht won the 200 meters, Morgan Bingham the 800, Destinie Tatum the High Jump, and Carissa Oliver achieved her best throw in the shot put at 35’3”.
Softball rained out; baseball shut out
Rain won the day on the softball diamond yesterday, forcing postponement of the Brooking-Siuslaw contest in Florence.
In Brookings, the Bruins came out on top 3-nothing over the Siuslaw Vikings in a Far West baseball matchup. The Vikings left nine baserunners stranded. Gabe Simington took the loss. He struck out eight and scattered five hits over six innings of work.
College baseball
Just one game on the schedule today… Oregon and Portland will meet in Hillsboro this afternoon for a non-conference baseball game.
