Friday started off well for the Beavers as Luke Heimlich tossed 8 1/3 innings and Jack Anderson and Andy Atwood each drove in a pair of runs at the Beavers defeated the Utah Utes in game one of a double header on Friday. The game was scoreless until a sixth inning double by Trevor Lamach. The Beavers score a couple more in the 8th taking the lead 3 -0 then added 4 more runs in the top of the ninth.
Game 2 of the double header was rough for the Beavers as they left a season high 14 on base and couldn’t overcome the Utes early lead going down 10 -4.
In Viking sports, after a rain out on Friday the Vikings take the field this afternoon for a pair of games against South Umpqua. Game one starts at 3 today with the pregame beginning at 2:45 on KCST.
The Lady Viks will play their rainout against the Lancers in Myrtle Creek.
Former Siuslaw Athlete of the year, Ashley Cole continues her domination of the softball field at Northwest Christian University. Cole broke the single season RBI record on Friday as she belted a pair of home runs against the University of Great Falls. She also set two more school records by safely getting on base in 20 consecutive games, as well as recording a season high 14 dingers.
