Siuslaw Girls one point off championship in FWL
In Winston, the Marshfield Pirates claimed the team championships for both boys and the girls at the Far West League meet.
Close behind the Lady Pirates in second place was Siuslaw with 182 points… just one point off the Girls’ championship effort. North Bend was second for the boys, Siuslaw was third.
The Viking Girls will be sending several representatives to this weekend’s 4A State Finals at Hayward Field in Eugene. Destinie Tatum captured the High Jump with a personal best jump of 5’1”. She also claimed victory in the 400 and 800 meters, and was part of the 1st place 4-by-400 meter relay. Because of scheduling challenges, Tatum won’t be competing in the 400 at the state meet.
Annmarie Precht won the 100 and 200 meters. Precht was fourth in the long jump and also qualified for the state meet in that event.
Celie Mans was 1st in the 15-hundred and finished second in the 3-thousand. Morgan Bingham won the three-K and was second in the 15… Mans and Bingham will compete in both events at the state meet. Bingham was also part of the winning 4-by-400.
Mikaela Siegel was second in the 100-high hurdles and won the triple-jump. She was third in the long jump, but also qualified for the state meet in that event.
Carissa Oliver continued her dominance in the throws… winning the Shot Put and the Discus. Her mark of 39’ 3” in the shot put moved her up to number four on the all-time list at Siuslaw.
Rounding out the list of competitors for the girls at State will be Kaeli Ramos who ran one leg of the relay. She will also compete in the 400 in place of Tatum.
For the boys… Trent Reavis was a double District winner, claiming victory in the Discus and the shot put. Murray Bingham was second in the 15-hundred and the three-thousand… he’ll run in both at the state meet this weekend.
In the Mountain West League finals…
The Mapleton Sailor girls won the 1A Special District 1 team championship, edging McKenzie with 126 points to the Eagles 121. The Mapleton boys were fifth behind Triangle Lake, Lowell, Days Creek and Siletz Valley.
Josi Hays was the lone individual champion for the Mapleton girls. She won the discus and also qualified for state in the Shot Put. The girls 4-by-400 relay team of Erin Michael, Alyssa Richards, Hannah Rodet and Clarissa Triebskorn advance to state. Other qualifiers for the girls include Triebskorn in the 800, Richards in the 3,000, and Michael in the javelin.
Tyler Packebush won the 110-meter hurdles for the boys; He was second in the pole vault behind teammate Hunter Simington. Cole Spencer was second in the high jump and Tanner Wilson also qualified for state with a second place finish in the javelin.
College Baseball…
Oregon picked up its first single game and series wins in Corvallis since the reinstatement of baseball nine years ago. The Ducks won Friday night 7-4. Oregon State evened the series with a 6-3 win Saturday night. Oregon held on for a 6-3 win in the rubber match yesterday.
