Rose slams into Athlete of the Week
Viking volleyball standout Elyssa Rose is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the week. The senior middle-blocker scored 19 kills, leading the team, in a four-set victory over the South Umpqua Lancers. The victory put Siuslaw alone, back on top of the Far West League standings.
Honorable mention goes to Mapleton Reciever Evan Moso (MO-so) who had three catches for 153 yards, but all three went for touchdowns in a loss to Yoncalla. Moso also converted two point-afters.
Prep schedules
On the schedule today… The Siuslaw Vikings are hosting the Marshfield Pirates for Far West League volleyball this evening… The JV match begins at 5:00 with Varsity coming 20 minutes after.
The Mapleton Sailors are on the road for Mountain West League play in Marcola against Mohawk.
Viking boys and girls in XC top ten
North Coast schools are atop the 4A Cross Country polls for the state this week. Seaside picked up one more coach’s vote than Valley Catholic, putting them atop the boys’ rankings. Tillamook is six points ahead of Philomath for the girls.
The Siuslaw Boys are ranked number five with North Bend at tenth. For the girls, Siuslaw is seventh behind North Bend at number five… South Umpqua is rated ninth.
