Mans “three-peats” for the girls.
Two streaks ended yesterday for the Siuslaw Viking Cross Country teams… the Girls finished second as a team at the Far West District meet. That was the first time in 14 years that they’ve done anything other than win the championship. Senior Celie Mans did win her third consecutive league title, finishing in 18:45.7. Kaeli Ramos was eighth; Hanna Rannow was tenth; Destinie Tatum 12th and Chloe Madden 18th as the girls finished in second place behind North Bend.
For the boys… this will be the first time in 15 years a Siuslaw team won’t make an appearance at the state meet. The Vikings finished third behind North Bend and Marshfield. Senior Jack Pickell will make the trip to the meet however. He was fourth overall with a personal record time of 17:11. Kiger Johnson hit the top ten, he was 9th. Jonah Jarman finished 11th, Isaac Griffes and Ryan Alletson were 14th and 15th.
The girls team, along with Pickell, will compete a week from tomorrow at the OSAA State Cross Country finals at LCC in Eugene.
Sailors on the course Friday
Three runners from Mapleton High School are running there today. It’s their district meet at LCC. This is the first time in 29 years the Sailors have had a cross country team.
OSAA 4A Volleyball playoffs
The Siuslaw Vikings will host the Tillamook Cheesemakers Saturday in the opening round of the OSAA 4A playoffs at one o’clock. The Vikings are the number one team from the Far West, but are ranked 15th overall. The Cheesemakers are the third place team from the Cowapa League… but are ranked 5th. A special expended pregame show begins on KCFM tomorrow at 12:30… the first serve with Bob Sneddon and McKenzie Perry calling the action… will be at one. The winning team Saturday advances to the final eight next Friday and Saturday in Forest Grove.
College football tomorrow…
The Oregon Ducks are favored to break a five-game losing streak tomorrow when they meet the Arizona State Sun Devils at Autzen Stadium. The pregame show begins at noon on KCST… kickoff is at two.
Oregon State will face Washington State at 7:45 in Corvallis… the pregame show on KCFM is set for 6:30.
