Tyler Dorsey scored 20 points, including the go-ahead layup with just over a minute remaining and third seeded Oregon ended number-7 Michigan’s dramatic post-season run with a 69-68 victory in a Midwest Regional semifinal Thursday night.  The Wolverines had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but Derrick Walton’s long jumper missed the basket.

The Ducks will take on number one seed Kansas Saturday at 5:45… the pregame show on KCST is at5:15.

Oregon and Oregon State women face different paths

The Women’s Sweet 16 begins tomorrow for Oregon… they’re in Bridgeport, Connecticut where they’ll face Maryland.  The winner of the game will most likely face overall number one U-Conn Monday.  Oregon State is in Stockton, Calilfornia where they’ll face Florida State tomorrow afternoon.  They’ll face the winner of number one seed South Carolina and 12th seeded Quinnipiac.

Prep sports…

The Sweet Home Huskies spoiled the Viking Baseball season opener, 8-1 yesterday.  Kelby White had Siuslaw’s lone hit; Drew Rannow accounted for the only RBI.  The Vikings are scheduled to be in Junction City for two games tomorrow.

Sweet Home dominated Viking softball yesterday… winning in five innings, 24-5.  The Huskies put up 23 hits on the day.  Claire Waggoner was two-for-three with a double, two RBI one run scored.  The Vikings are scheduled for two games tomorrow at home against Bandon.

On the track…

Trent Reavis was a double winner, taking the shot put and discus yesterday at the Siuslaw Ice Breaker Invitational.  Clark Hooper won both hurdles… the 110 and 300; Carrissa Oliver won the discus and shot for the girls.  Other individual winners:  Destinie Tatum in the 400; Celie Manns in the 1500; Anne Wartnick in the 3-thousand;

In Mapleton, they made a quick switch from the Sailor Relays to the Mapleton Field Day Extravaganza.  Repairs to the track made over the winter haven’t been completely done, new lane lines have not yet been painted.  That coupled with more heavy rain forced cancellation of track events.  But they were able to get several field events in.  Josi Hays swept the “throws” for the Sailors, winning the discus, the javelin and the shot put.  Bailey Messick won the girls high jump.

For the boys, Tanner Wilson won the javelin; Cole Spencer the high jump; and Austin Wilson won the triple.

College baseball…

The top ranked bullpen in college baseball is taking on the best hitting team this weekend in Corvallis.  Number one ranked Oregon State will host number nine Arizona Wildcats in a three game series that begins this evening at Goss Stadium.  All three games will air on KCFM… airtime this evening is at 6:30… tomorrow afternoon they go on the air at 3:30, then Sunday morning it’s at 10:30.

Oregon has the Washington Huskies at PK Park in Eugene for three games.  First pitch is at seven tonight and Saturday, then at two Sunday afternoon.
