State Play-In: Siuslaw vs. Woodburn

The Siuslaw Vikings traveled to Woodburn on Friday night to face the Bulldogs on a State 4A play-in game.  The Vikings led at halftime 29-28 but were shut down in the second half only scoring an additional 10 points in the remaining quarters.  Braydon Thornton led the Viks with 14 in the 60-39 loss, ending the Viking’s season.

State Wrestling Tournament

Viking wrestlers were on the mat over the weekend  Elijah LaCosse suffered a first round loss as he was pinned by the Number 3 ranked wrestler in the state Alex Kehr from LaGrand, but LaCosse stuck it out and took the next 5 opponents by pin in the 138 pound bracket to finish 3rd overall.  Coach Neil Wartnik said LaCosse met Kehr in the final round and defeated him by fall in the latter part of the first period.  LaCosse was named consolation champion scoring 23 points.  For the girls, Hayden Muller finished in 4th place in the girls 135 pound weight division against wrestlers for all brackets from 1A to 6A  Matthew Horrillo placed 3rd atop his 285 pound weight division.

Women’s Hoops

Women’s college basketball over the weekend saw the end of the regular season for both the Ducks and Beavers.  the Ducks women won out against both Washington and Washington State. They beat the cougars 88-57 on Friday and the beat the Huskies last night 92-56

The Beavers also defeated both Washington teams 75-61 over the Huskies and 73-58 over the cougars.

Preseason Baseball

Preseason Beaver Baseball over the weekend saw the Beavers split 4 games against San Diego State taking the first two games 13-1 and 4-1 and then dropping two straight 6-zip and 12-11

The Ducks swept Milwaukee in 4 games 6-4 in extra innings on Friday and then 7-2, 6-0, and 6-1 on Saturday and Sunday.
