Viking Football Grabs League Title
It was the second quarter on Friday evening before the Vikings had their first offensive down. They were up 8-6 though after a Braydon Thornton 80 yard Kick-off return in the first. It would be their last lead until midway through the 4th quarter as the Junction City Tiger built a 40-14 lead over the Viks. The Viks mounted a comeback for the ages as they methodically overcame the deficit. The Viking scored 27 unanswered points including two late touchdown passes from Beau Erickson to Braydon Thornton. The Vikings tied the game late in the 4th, but an excessive celebration penalty moved the extra point try back 15 yards. Coach Sam Johnson sent out the kicking team and Camp Lacouture kicked a 35 yard extra point for the lead. Junction city would mount one more try but turned the ball over on an interception. Vikings end the season atop the 3A Special District 2 and are ranked #1. The Viking will host Blanchet Catholic Friday evening at Hans Petersen Field.
Ducks Stay at #7
The Oregon Ducks remain #7 in the AP poll this week after handily defeating the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday 52-29. There is some talk that the Ducks could be considered for the College bowl Championship series, but that there would have to be some loses from some other top teams before the Ducks could cement a run at a National Championship.
Beavers Fall to Cal
The Oregon State Beavers lost some ground in the Pac-12 on Saturday as the Cal Bears outgunned the Beavers 39-25. The Beavers got within 6 late in the 4th quarter but the Bears iced the victory with an 11 play 75 yard series with 5 minutes left in the game.
