Viking Sports
The Siuslaw Vikings Baseball and Softball teams will finish up their season after Friday’s cancellation of games due to weather. Both teams will have a double header today against Marshfield. Games begin at 3 pm and Coast Radio will cover the second game of the baseball Double-Header beginning at 4:45.
Viking Track and Field
On Friday and Saturday the Viking participated in the Sky-Em League Championships. Senior Rylee Colton squeezed by Marist’s Avery Hedden to take the top spot in the 3000 meter race with a personal record time of 10:44.17. she also finished 3rd in the 1500. The lady 4×400 relay team finished second.
For the men junior Hunter Petterson finished first in the 200 meters with a time of 23:30. Junior Sam Ulrich set a personal record in the 800 meter and a first place finish with a time of 1:58.68. Senior Chad Hughes finished second in the 1500 meter at 4:16.44. Ulrich also finished second in the 3000 with Chad Hughes behind him in third. Ulrich qualified for state in the 3000 and 800 and Hughes qualified in the 3000 and 1500. Petterson qualified in the 200 and 400. Junior Noel Hernandez qualified for state in the 300m hurdles with a third place finish. Junior Jonathan Rose finished first in the shot put qualifying for state with a toss of 42’7.25” he also qualified for discus with a first place 138’. Senior Camp Lacouture finished third in the Pole Vault at 14’4” and Kyle Hughes finished 5th with a pr 13’4” both qualified for state.
Mapleton Track and Field
Mapleton Track and Field had their district meet on Friday. Opal Burruss took first in the 1500 with a time of 5:38.78. Senior Joe Shepard took first in the Triple Jump with a personal record of 41”01” Shepard also tied for second in the high jump at 5’8”. Emily Neece took third in the Shot Put with a toss of 28’9.75” Shepard will compete for state in the triple jump and Neece is a wildcard for the shot put. Burruss opted out of state due to prior commitments.
Ducks Baseball
Duck take the series against ASU. Rebounding after a Saturday loss the Ducks bats went on fire Sunday scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning and coming back again in the 4th with 5 more. The ducks would add 6 more runs and 18 hits for a 15-5 victory.
Beaver Baseball
The OSU Beavers drop their series in the desert after winning the opening game on Friday the Beavers dropped the next two finishing up Sunday losing the 5 -1 lead in the 5th by giving up 3 runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings for a 10-5 loss.
Siuslaw Golf
Siuslaw Freshman Ryan Klampe will be the first Viking Golfer to compete in the OSAA State tournament in many years. Klampe, the Special District 3 individual champion, tees off today at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks… play wraps up Tuesday afternoon.
