Ems Baseball
The Eugene Emeralds are staying just ahead of the Vancouver Canadians in the Northwest League. The Ems faced the Hillsboro Hops last night and came out swinging scoring 3 runs in the top of the second inning on a three run homer by shortstop Jimmy Glowenke. A run in the third and a two run homer in the 5th added to the lead. In the eighth inning with the bases loaded Ems Simon Whiteman hit a shot in deep center field clearing the bases, but wasn’t satisfied, he tried for an inside the park grand slam, but was thrown out at home plate. Ems pitcher Juan Sanchez closed out the night for the Ems with a pair of strike outs to end the game 9-1. Play resumes with game two this evening in Hillsboro.
