Large Turnout For Sports
Siuslaw Athletic Director Chris Johnson says there has been a large increase in the number of student-athletes turning out for fall sports.
“Last time I checked, I think, maybe 151 for fall sports, which, that’s a big number.”
Some of the increase, he said, comes from the expansion of the selections available. Co-ed Soccer has been expanded to two different varsity programs: Boys and girls. But, Johnson added, a big factor was the elimination of fees for participating. The 2008 recession and reduced revenues prompted the imposition of fees which could add up to hundreds of dollars each year for some families. The School Board amended the fee policy earlier this year to eliminate that cost.
Ems Score Another Win
Another win last night for the Eugene Emeralds. Game two against the Everett AquaSox included the second grand slam in two nights. This one by ems catcher Andy Thomas. On a two and one count Thomas took the ball yard into deep center field. The Ems held the Sox scoreless through 6 innings before giving up a run on a wild pitch in the 7th and a solo home run in the 8th. Ems win 6-2.
