Viking Split Double-Header

The Siuslaw Vikings split a pair of games on Friday with the Sisters Outlaws.  The first game the Vikings only managed one hit and fell 10-0, but game two was sharply different with the Vikings fighting for the win in come from behind fashion.  The Outlaws scored first with 3 runs in the bottom of the first and the Vikings slowly gathered steam with one run in the 3, one in the fourth and 3 in the 6th to take a 5-4 lead until the Outlaws tied it up in the bottom of the 6th.  No runs were scored in the seventh taking the game to extra innings.  The Vikings scored 2 more in the top of the eighth the Joel Sissel finished it out for the Vikings

Final 7-5.  The Vikings have 4 games left on the schedule.  Tuesday they meet with Pleasant Hill at Pleasant Hill and then a  double-header at home on Friday.  Next Tuesday they finish up the regular season with Cottage Grove.

Viking Track and Field

On Friday it was the Hunter Petterson show at the Regis Community Twilight meet. The senior set a season record 23.2 in the 200 meter race taking the top slot and then placed third in the 400 meter race with a time of 51.98 another season record for him.  He helped the 4×100 relay team to a second place finish and the 4×400 team took first place. A couple of other seniors also did quite well with Sam Ulrich placing first in the 800 m followed by fellow senior Jacob Blankenship in 2nd with a PR 2:01.10.  Ulrich also took first in the 1500 meters.  Kyle Hughes took second in the 3000 meters with a PR of 9:01.51.  Lucian Murphy took fourth in the 110 meter hurdles and Noel Hernandez took third in the 300 meter hurdles. Senior Jonathan Rose took first in the discus with a PR toss of 142’11” and took third in the javelin at 145’2”. Kyle Hughes took first in the Pole Vault.  For the ladies, Corduroy Holbrook placed 4th in the 800 meters with a PR of 2:27.92, Maya Wells took second place in the 1500 meters with a PR of 5:05.06, Danin Lacouture took second place in the shot put at 31’10”,

College Baseball

The Oregon Ducks went 1 for 3 against USC over the weekend losing the rubber match on Sunday 11-4.  The Oregon State Beavers took 2 of 3 from the Utah Utes winning 11-4 on Sunday.
