Viking Soccer
The Siuslaw Viking boys’ soccer squad began practice for their second season of league play yesterday. Coach Londi Tamaro believes the team has a “real potential for a really good season”. That’s despite losing most of the defense to graduation last year. Last year’s team was 5-5-3 overall and just barely missed the playoffs. The team will be in Coos Bay August 25th for the Marshfield Jamboree, then open with a non-league match August 31st at home against Junction City.
Hall of Fame Induction
The induction of the 11th class of the Siuslaw High School Hall of Fame is set for this Friday at the Florence Events Center. This year there are eight individuals to be honored. Don Hunt from the class of 1971; the late Allen McMullen from 1973; and Brad Wilson from 1976. Brandon Lockman from the class of 1999 is the only inductee from the 80s and 90s. Josh Thomas-Dotson in 2003, Shelbey McClellan from 09, Alexis Reavis in 2010 and Joseph Dotson from 2014 round out the lineup. This year marks a few “firsts” for the hall. The first pair of brothers to go into the hall in the same class: Josh Thomas-Dotson and Joseph Dotson, are on the list. And, with the induction of McClellan, it marks the first mother-daughter membership. Her Mother, Shannon Gates McClellan was in the very first class inducted in 2010. Doors open at five PM Friday at the Florence Events Center. A link to purchase tickets in advance can be found on the FEC online calendar as well as at the Siuslaw website.
Ems Scoreless
Last night the Eugene Emeralds failed to capitalize on a 10 hit game as the team donned their Exploding Whale Uniforms. The team left 14 runners on base in last night’s 6-0 loss to the Everett Aqua Sox. The two teams meet again this evening for game two of the 6 game series.
