Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate junior Mapleton Track and field’s Alex Burnett as this week’s athlete of the week. Alex tossed the javelin 125’8” for a first place finish at last week’s McKenzie End of Season tournament which is just shy of his PR 128’2” at the Crow Cinder Classic in late April.
Honorable Mention
Honorable mention goes to Siuslaw senior Dylan Jensen who set a season best in the 800 meters at 2:04.31 seconds in last week’s Wally Ciochetti invitational.
Viking Sports
The Siuslaw Vikings will take the field today to begin game one of a three game series against the Pleasant Hill Billies. Both the baseball and softball teams will be in action beginning at 4:30. Live action will be broadcast on KCST of the Baseball game beginning at 4:15. On Friday the series will continue with a double header from Pleasant Hill. Two games that had to be rescheduled against Harrisburg have been given the green light for next Wednesday. The teams will travel to Harrisburg for the final games of the regular season.
Hall of Fame Roll Out
The Siuslaw High School Hall of Fame Class is rolling out. Athletic Director Chris Johnson says the school has decided to eek out the information over the next several weeks. The first inductee recognized is a current Siuslaw High School teacher Max Perry. Perry was first team all state for Siuslaw’s 2006 championship football team and also a significant contributor to basketball and track and field. perry went on to excel in sports at Southern Oregon University where he still holds the fourth best toss in the shot put.
