The 12th Florence Relay for Life is in the books, but those books are still open. As of yesterday, according to chairman John Bartlett, the 24-hour American Cancer Society event had raised $78-thousand for cancer research and support, that’s just two-thousand shy of their goal. They’re still collecting pledges and will do so through the end of this month, making Bartlett confident that they will hit the target.
Three of last year’s largest contributing teams, Oldfields, the Humane Society and Three Rivers Casino, weren’t able to participate this year, but he says a record breaking number of teams filled the gap. Oregon Pacific Bank fielded the largest team contribution, $6,424.
The History Channel’s Top Shot contestant Cliff Walsh brought in the largest individual amount at $1,175. Clara Kuhn was second at $1,000.
Bartlett said one goal this year was to increase the size of the crowd at Saturday’s closing ceremonies…something he said was accomplished.
