The Newport Democrat, currently serving as the Oregon House District Number 10 Representative says when her current term expires at the end of next year, she’ll call it quits.
Her public career included serving as a city councilor and Mayor of the Eastern Oregon community of Elgin. After moving to the coast in 1987 she was elected to the Lincoln County Commission, serving three terms before being elected to the Oregon House in 2006.
Cowan says she’s quite proud of her accomplishments while serving in the Oregon Legislature. During her tenure she was instrumental in convincing the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to locate their west-coast operations center in Newport. She also chaired the legislative Coastal Caucus and made senior issues one of her top priorities.
