ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – The Bureau of Land Management says a fossil
found by employees on federal land represents the earliest record
of living beavers in North America. The 7- to 7.3-million-year-old
pair of teeth was found on BLM land in northeast Oregon, and the
Albany Democrat-Herald reports they come from the Rattlesnake
Formation.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Forest Grove have arrested an
18-year-old in connection with a Saturday night shooting that left
a 15-year-old boy dead and a girl injured. Capt. Mike Herb says
Cody J. Ward was taken into custody Saturday, and he was booked
into the Washington County Jail. He is set to be arraigned today.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The nonprofit builder Habitat for
Humanity’s Portland branch has been taking advantage of low prices
to snatch up cheap land, amassing enough real estate in recent
months to build as many as 150 houses for low-income families.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – An Oregon man has been sent to detox after
he mistook a Lincoln police station for a casino. Sgt. John Backer
told the Lincoln Journal Star that the 21-year-old man was turned
away after wandering into the University of Nebraska-Lincoln police
station Saturday night and asking about blackjack chips. He
returned minutes later and blew a .273 when officers administered a
blood-alcohol test.
