Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – An Oregon man pressed his luck one too many
times and spent the night in a Nebraska detox cell after twice
mistaking a police station for a casino and asking authorities for
blackjack chips. The 21-year-old man approached the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln police station front desk after a college football
game Saturday night. He left after a staffer told him it was a
police station but returned a few minutes later.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Pieces of Oregon’s timber history are
going on the auction block as the Blue Heron Paper mill in Oregon
City sells off equipment. British fur trader John McLoughlin built
a sawmill on the site in 1829, and a paper mill has been in
operation there for more than a century. But the company filed for
bankruptcy earlier this year, saying Chinese mills had bid up the
cost of the waste it recycled into newsprint, bags, towels and
packaging for McDonald’s.
JUNCTION CITY, Ore. (AP) – Police in Junction City say they’re
baffled at a hospital’s decision to release a man who pulled a
weapon from his waistband and ran from officers, hoping to be shot
and killed. The police sent him to a psychiatric crisis unit, and
he was sent home two hours later.
POWELL BUTTE, Ore. (AP) – A Powell Butte farmer was killed
Sunday when a hay wagon collapsed on him. KTVZ reports Crook County
deputies found 52-year-old Michael Rachor (RASH-ur) dead at the
scene.
