Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) – A sheriff’s spokesman says authorities
have temporarily suspended a ground search for a possible second
victim after two small planes collided near an Oregon state park.
Yamhill County sheriff’s Capt. Ken Summers said last night that
investigators continue to conduct interviews in an effort to learn
whether a second person was aboard the plane that crashed and
disintegrated yesterday afternoon, killing at least one person. The
second plane made an emergency landing in the park, with the two
people aboard avoiding injury.
MERLIN, Ore. (AP) – The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office says a
married couple found shot dead at their home may have been killed
by a third person. Spokeswoman Erin Maue (MOW’-ee) said yesterday
investigators consider the shootings a double homicide, not a
murder-suicide. The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports a co-worker
got worried Monday when 53-year-old Susan Goins didn’t come to
work. Deputies found her lying in her driveway in the community of
Merlin, shot in the head. Investigators then found her husband,
63-year-old Dennis Goins, inside the house, also shot in the head.
However, authorities have said that they don’t believe the
community is at risk.
DEPOE BAY, Ore. (AP) – A Lincoln County sheriff’s officer says a
Depoe Bay woman is recovering in a Portland hospital from a gunshot
wound to the head. Her husband called 911 to report he accidentally
shot her. Sgt. Mark Meister said yesterday that 47-year-old Lovena
Terry is hospitalized at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with what’s
called a non-life-threatening injury. She was conscious and talking
when officers responded on Monday. She agreed that the shooting was
accidental. Investigators say that 45-year-old Kenneth Lyle Ames
was intoxicated.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Occupy Salem demonstrators report that Gov.
John Kitzhaber dropped by to visit with them in Willson Park.
Oregon PeaceWorks director Peter Bergel says the governor and
several staff members visited yesterday. Bergel says it’s
encouraging that the governor came down for a conversation. The
protest is a spin-off of Occupy Wall Street. The Statesman Journal
says demonstrators are in their third week of occupying the park. A
Kitzhaber spokesman says the governor just wanted to listen to the
protesters and hear their concerns.
