Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – Ashland police are investigating the death
of a 23-year-old man as a homicide. The body of David Michael
Grubbs of Ashland was found Saturday on a bike path near Hunter
Park behind Walker Elementary School. Police say he may have been
attacked with a large sharp-edged object. A passer-by reported
finding the body. Detectives say they want to identify two males
who were in the area when the body was found.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – About 300 people turned out at a rally to
protest the eviction of the Occupy Portland encampment one week
after the camp was broken up. The rally and march on a blustery
Sunday in Portland attracted a sizeable crowd, but nothing on the
order of the thousands of people who filled the city’s downtown on
Thursday. The city’s Nov. 13 eviction of the encampment came after
public safety and sanitation concerns.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Police Chief Mike Reese has
apologized for saying Thursday it took police three hours to
respond to a sexual assault call because officers were tied up with
Occupy Portland. In a statement Saturday, Reese said a variety of
factors affected police resources the day of the call, including a
shooting, a crash and Occupy Portland events. Reese said he didn’t
intend to mislead people while doing TV interviews on Thursday.
CASCADIA, Ore. (AP) – A fire has destroyed the post office and
another building in Cascadia. The Democrat-Herald says the fire
started Saturday morning in a former school building that served as
a home and business in the town 13 miles east of Sweet Home in the
foothills of the Cascades. It spread to a trailer that housed both
the post office and a small lending library. No one was hurt. The
post office has been on the list of candidates for closure.
